Vaultwarden

Password management for teams, securely hosted in Switzerland

Online | From CHF 9/Mo

About Vaultwarden

Vaultwarden is an open-source password manager for teams and a lightweight server implementation of the Bitwarden API. This means that your staff can use the tried-and-tested Bitwarden apps and browser extensions on all devices – but the server behind them runs on your premises, not in the US cloud. All vaults are end-to-end encrypted; not even the operator can read the passwords. With Managed Vaultwarden Hosting from OpenHosting, you get this solution as a ready-to-use service: centralised password management, secure team sharing and two-factor authentication, without having to run your own server.

The practical benefit: rather than managing passwords in Excel spreadsheets, browser history or via email, each team member has their own personal vault, and shared login details are shared in a controlled manner via organisations. If someone leaves the team, you can revoke their access with a single click.

Who is Vaultwarden suitable for?

Vaultwarden is suitable for any Swiss SME that manages more than a handful of login details within its team. Fiduciary firms and law firms secure logins to e-banking portals and government platforms; medical practices manage access to practice software and laboratory portals; and agencies share client logins in a controlled manner within project teams. Clubs and smaller organisations also benefit: a change in the board of directors no longer means that passwords are lost or passed on without proper control.

Vaultwarden Hosting in Switzerland

OpenHosting operates your Vaultwarden instance on a fully managed basis in Swiss data centres in the Zurich region. The encrypted vaults are located in Switzerland in compliance with the nDSG and are backed up daily using a 3-2-1 backup strategy – and even hourly under the Business Plan. Security updates, monitoring and support are included in the price; you do not need to worry about server hardening or update cycles.

Making the switch is straightforward: Vaultwarden imports data from Bitwarden, LastPass, 1Password or KeePass directly via the web interface, and we’ll help you with the migration. Managed Vaultwarden Hosting is available from CHF 9 per month for up to 5 users with unlimited passwords – the Business plan includes 25 users and SSO integration. This means that professional password management costs significantly less per user than comparable US services.
